Poker Player - Lee Childs

Lee Childs is 35 years old and comes from suburban Washington, D. C. He holds a BBA in computer information systems from James Madison University, in Virginia. He is married, has no children and took some time out of his life to pursue a dreamt participate in the World Series of Poker. He relies on the support of his wife and father as well as that of his friends and family.

The 2007 WSOP event introduced the world so some interesting players who had not been seen before. One of these people was Lee Childs. His Hendon Mob file was blank, and as far as anyone knew he did not have any live tournament experience. What he had was chutzpah and plenty of it. He made is all the way to the final table, where he earned just over $700,000 in prize money, and he finished in 7th place.

The WSOP event was held at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino. Entrants came from all over the world, more than had been there ever before. The air was filled with competitive hormones – a setting Lee Child was very familiar with. He has been competitive since his early childhood days. He played sports and eventually joined the high school wrestling team. Although he had never wrestled before, he joined the team in the 9th grade. By the time he was a senior, he lost only two other matches during the regular season. In the state play offs he placed second for a finish in his weight class.

He became a software engineer and worked on the “JASON project. This is an educational foundation for students. It is affiliated with the National Geographic Society. The person who located the Titanic founded the JASOON project. This is the job he gave up before coming to Las Vegas to devote himself to a full time poker career. He does his best work online and specializes in multi-table tournaments. He defeated Jennifer Tilly and made it through to the final table.

He let the chip count through most of the weekend and by the end of play Monday had garnered more than 13,240,000 chips. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that this distinctive looking young man was a serious contender. He has shaved head and carries a stocky build from his wrestling days. Despite his slightly intimidating aura, he is one of those rare, honest nice-guys we hear about. He may be under the radar but chances are he can make a great deal of money from endorsement deals, and there could be quite a few of those. Online poker business will take him very seriously.

He didn’t lose sight of why he came to Las Vegas. Certainly it was to win if at all possible but he also wanted to have fun and to participate in every moment of the experience.

In the final play, he raises the bet to $480,000 more. Jerry Yang moves in the moment the decision was made. Childs and the diminutive Jerry Wang face off. He calls and the crowd is on its feet cheering. He realizes his King of Hearts dominates Yang’s 8. The turn casts an ugly shadow on his luck and Yang takes over the lead. The dye is cast now and there is no turning back; Yang defeats Lee Childs, sending him back home with more than $700,000 in his pocket. His dream of winning a bracelet didn’t come though this time, but that isn’t going to stop Lee from pursing more tournaments. He is considering the WSOP, and there are online tournaments that capture his interest as well. This is definitely not the last time Vegas will see Lee Childs.
